With summer around the corner we’re all looking for fun activities to do with the kids, but what do you do when you can’t fill everyday with expensive days out??
Well, we are 1 week away from the beginning of our summer break and we have been making lists of activities we can fill our days with, however, after running my day care service for well over 12 years now, it’s getting harder and harder to find new activities that keeps kids engaged and active (and away from screens)
One activity that comes back again and again though and covers kids of all ages is a scavenger hunt.
We have made simple scavenger hunts like this for every month, every occassion and every theme you can imagine.
The kids love wandering around different places searching for items, and they will walk miles if they can just find one more item on their list.
Here are some ideas from my back up list if you want to add more to your hunt.
- Spider webs
- Something yellow
- Animal tracks
- Something that starts with each letter on the alphabet
- A butterfly
- Something soft
- An item that smells
- Something blue
- A swing
- Some berries
- A green car
So many more possibilties you could add here depending on your neighbourhood. There is also 4 great scavenger hunts over at The Crazy Outdoor Mama. I have printed these off to take camping with us this weekend!!
It’s a great idea to keep a list like this on your phone so if your out and about and the kids get board you have something at hand to get them engaged.
This simple scavenger hunt is ideal for taking out for a walk in the woods. There are so many other things you can add but we try to keep things simple so everyone can be involved.
I’ve also included a summer themed scavenger hunt. So no matter what you choose to do it will come in handy.
Check out this post for over 100 ideas for summer fun to get you out and having fun.
o, If you’re looking for a simple activity to get your kids outside and active, be sure to download a copy of this woodland Scavenger hunt and bonus summer one and get your kids out exploring!
To make it fun for older kids you can also use your scavenger hunt along side some sort of reward.
The first to find everything on their list gets to choose the next activity, gets to choose a movie to see or what desert to have etc.
Have fun with it and enjoy!
